We went to visit a friend at the Stilbaai Yacht Club in the Vaal dam for a weekend. It was the first warm weekend in weeks and we were so thankful. Finally giving us a chance to go fishing at the Vaal Dam.
Unfortunately I was pretty sick with bronchitis, so movement and energy levels were little to none. That didn’t stop the kids though. They were safe and eager to fish, making the most of the beautiful weather. The Vaal dam delivered as usual.
The fishing spot becomes deep very quickly. It is equipped with tables, chairs and a braai under the trees literally on the Vaal Dam water line. This weekend we didn’t have time to prep the area, so focused on small hooks until upgrading for the famous barbel (barber) in the deeper waters. The Vaal Dam fishing trip delivered carp, moggel and barbel (barber).
The venue on the Vaal Dam is for members only and for guest of members. You can buy a stand and/ or mooring if you have boat. Facilities were well maintained and included play areas, dedicated boating and fishing spots, swimming pool and boat storage.
